Synopsis:

The historic drama of gay love divided by the Berlin Wall. It is 1986, the Berlin Wall not only divides a city but also symbolises the division of the whole European continent. It has stood for twenty-five years, it has divided families, friends, lovers and has caused the deaths of countless people who have tried to cross from east to west. Travelling the other way, from west to east, is not too difficult, as West Germans are allowed to visit for five hours each week. And that's how they met, a tourist trip into another world and a chance meeting that was to change the lives of two young men, one from the West and the other trapped east of the wall. Their love is intense and passionate. But the Wall stands between them. There is a way out, a secret and dangerous way to escape, so they can be together. A way that will lead to either freedom or death. 'Westler' captures a moment in history and documents the gay underworld of the old communist East Berlin. Today it stands as a true classic of German cinema.
